Universal Design for Independent Living

Universal Design is a concept that, for the Springs Construction team, includes Aging in Place and Design for All Ages which refers to homes, products and spaces that are created to be inherently accessible to people with and without disabilities for independent living. For us, it's about the planning, designing and building of good-looking, durable and practical living areas to maximally benefit everyone, regardless of age or ability. By using Universal Design elements as standard building practices wherever possible, our intention is to build homes that last a lifetime. We also make Universal Design accommodations now for use in those later years of life. Our goal is to create homes and living spaces that ensure our clients will be able to enjoy independent living through Universal Design and lasting home construction.

You might be wondering, "What about ADA code?" The Americans with Disabilities Act was introduced in 1962 by President Kennedy and refers to the consideration and accommodation for the disabled in public buildings. Since ADA does not apply to residential code, we are happy to work with local California building departments for the use of ADA standards in homes, although this is not required.
